Lisa, Jerry, Sutton & Lily F. - The Fire and Hot Tub Were Fab!

We read about DogWoods Retreat in Bark magazine.   We are very pleased with our stay.  The cabin is fabulous - we found ourselves not wanting to leave.  We hiked DuPont and Pisgah Forest.  Our dogs- a 3 year old German Wirehair and a 2 year old Golden loved the hikes, fenced yard and the loving from the community :).  We took a side trip to Highlands which was also a pretty area.  We boosted the economy at Quotations, Cherrywood (a great new store), soda shop and downtown cafe.  We are taking home pottery from Mud Dabbers and great memories.  We will "like" you on Facebook and tell our doggie friends to visit.

P.S. The fire, and hot tub were fab.  Everything we needed was here including gater :)  Felt like home!

Ellen G. - Thank You So Much For The Training!

Nan,

Sorry it took so long, life is busy back at home!

I wanted to give you an update. Tabby continues to improve at home. And Lily (the 2-year-old) is on the same program now and showing great improvement. The situation with 5 dogs is much easier to deal with now that I don’t have to worry about Tabitha going off on the other dogs. And she’s a much happier dog now! I see a sweet side of her I haven’t seen since she was a puppy. It’s really wonderful.

I haven’t started working with her on walks with stranger dogs yet. There’s still some ground work to be done at home. But, other situations are being resolved that give me confidence we’ll be able to overcome her issues with other dogs on leash. She has a training class starting in a month, where she’ll be around other dogs so that’s our goal.

I just want to thank you so much for the training. Your insight, and tools and techniques that you brought to our situation, have been just what I was looking for. It’s so nice to be on the right track finally! Thank you.

I included a photo of Tabby and Guinness from our trip. I also attached a video of the two of them playing the last day we were there. Tabby and Guinness have never played together at home, so this was a drastic change. Tabby is being very submissive and Guinness isn’t humping her. So, big improvements. :)

Nikki, Kris, Phinn and Luna - White Squirrel Cabin

DogWoods Retreat was a great find for us.  We drove 10 hours from PA and the minute we got there we felt at home!  The "cabins" are beautiful houses with all the amenities, well kept and clean.  The fenced in yard was the best in our Boxers eyes.  They loved running the length of the porch around the house and jumping off and running thru the trees.  This is what we were looking for a place where we all could be comfortable!  The nearby state parks are great and easily accessible and all allow dogs.  Pisgah and DuPont parks were great for the dogs, easy access to the rivers and streams our dogs love to play in.

Brevard was great and one local shop called Local Color even invited our dogs in to browse with us.  As you can tell our dogs go with us everywhere and this was the perfect spot for us to vacation in.  There is something for everyone here and I am quite sure that someone without dogs would love it too.  But we all know everything is better with one..or two!  LOL

Thanks to Nan and Will for having a place we all could enjoy and relax in.  Made coming home and back to work hard.

Wendy - Relaxation and Adventure!

Will & Nan

The 7 night stay here has been filled with relaxation and adventure!  Claude & I were both pleased with the cleanliness of the cabin and the beautiful lay out of the area.  We didn't hang out at the cabin much so we didn't see the bear but we did see a beautiful deer "frozen" in the woods while Luke barked at her.  She stayed long enough for me to run upstairs and get the camera to take her picture.  We hiked to John's Rock, went to Asheville to do the tree-top adventure and ziplining.  But the most fun was our half day trip of canyoneering, repelling and rock hopping with Joe - who is from our area of Lousianna :).  I highly encourage anyone who wants a challenging adventure to arrange a trip with Joe @ Pura Vida Adventures in Brevard.  We wish to have done a lot more hiking but ran out of time!

We also went to see Triple Falls @ DuPont State Forest- Beautiful!!! Ate at Hob nob and Mayberry's - our waitress Blakely was a sweetie!  We saw one white squirrel on campus but he was too quick to snap a picture.  Our son had a blast for the month @ Camp Chosatonga which was our reason to visit- pick him up!:)

We will be back to explore the area again!

Heather & Reid - Firefly Cabin Beautiful Stay!

The cabins are beautiful! So clean and fully stocked with essentials! The location is amazing, so close to some beautiful waterfalls, great food and downtown Brevard. I have two children, 6 and 3. They loved the firefly hunts and daily bug hunts. They especially loved the Luna Moth and the Walking Stick! Our dog loved it as well. The yard was so big,he was able to play ball everyday. A great feature was the porch which wrapped almost all the way around the house. We could be in the amazing hot tub and throw the ball for the dog! He LOVED it! There were dog beds on each floor. Nice touch but I never imagined my dog would even lay on one. Much to my surprise, he spent a lot of nap time on those beds!

The owners were wonderful. They were there for questions and sent emails telling us what events were happening in he area. Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Park were some of our favorite sites. Beautiful waterfalls and nice hikes with the family. We can't wait to return! Thanks for an amazing place to stay! I would recommend this to all our family and friends!

Joni W. - Dog Loving Place!

This cabin was absolutely perfect. Our dogs were in heaven with a dog-loving built place. The large surrounding decks on 2 levels were their place of total relaxation in the cool evenings. The huge fenced in yard was a dog's dream. We always look for places to allow dogs when we go on vacation, but we must say that this one tops them all. The owners were a delight to work with in booking our reservation as well as any needs that we may have had. They provided us with a detailed event calendar and places to visit while in the area. The Brevard area is a wonderful little secret NC mountain town. If you want a beautiful NC cabin with a welcoming heart for your 4 legged kids, Dog Woods Retreat will certainly be the place to stay. We loved it and do plan to return. Thanks Nan and Will!

First, the "cabin" is a sanctuary from stress, pressure, and other negative forces of the world. From the second you walk in, the rest of the world melts away and it's pure relaxation from the head toe the toes. The comfy provisions and hot-tub are added bonuses.

Next, your instruction and guidance in training both canines and humans is divine. I realize you have "learned" your craft, but you are gifted, as well. I believe I have never seen Kai so relaxed yet focused at the same time. With practice, his human will continue to grow in knowledge of how he "ticks" and make choices that will benefit both. We will definitely be back to your retreat and gain more insight from our dog guru! May your days be filled with light and love, your heart with peace and serenity, and your retreat with bookings. Much love and gratitude!

Pat Nelson & George

I relaxed as soon as I came. George the dog, enjoyed the walks in the woods, the Friday night drumming circle in Asheville. George and I appreciated the dog friendly atmosphere here and the general area was great.

My favorite things:

  • Peace and quiet
  • The Soda Shoppe in Brevard
  • The friendliness of the Creekside Market down the road.
  • The spotless, comfortable and beautiful cabins.

Thanks! We'll be back!
